Once your session is booked, you’ll be guided through styling and setup options to create a cake smash that feels timeless and beautifully suited to your little one. Sessions are held Monday – Friday in my studio, allowing for a calm and comfortable environment designed especially for babies.

Your Relaxed Experience

There’s no pressure for smiles or perfect participation. I gently guide your baby while allowing space for curiosity, play and real reactions to unfold. Every little one approaches their cake differently — some dive straight in while others take their time — and both are perfectly welcomed. Sessions include a combination of milestone portraits before the cake, the cake smash itself, and optional clean-up or bath moments, creating a beautiful balance of variety within your gallery.

Selecting Your Images

After your session, you’ll receive a beautifully presented online gallery to select your favourite images from your chosen collection. Additional edited images and heirloom-quality prints are available should you wish to expand your gallery.

Your final edited images are delivered in high resolution, ready to print, frame and preserve for years to come. The first year passes so quickly — your photographs become the keepsake that allows you to hold onto this special stage just a little longer.

What age is best for a cake smash session?

Cake smash sessions are typically held when your baby is around 11–13 months old, allowing time for images to be ready for their first birthday celebrations. Sessions can also be adjusted for milestone celebrations beyond the first birthday if desired.

Where do cake smash sessions take place?

Cake smash sessions are held in my studio, carefully styled with soft, timeless setups designed to keep the focus on your little one. The studio environment allows for a calm, comfortable experience without weather or lighting concerns.

What time of day are sessions scheduled?

Sessions are offered Monday to Friday at times that best suit babies’ routines. Morning sessions are often recommended when little ones are well rested and happiest.

What should my baby wear?

Simple, neutral outfits photograph beautifully and allow your baby’s personality to shine. After booking, you’ll receive a styling guide with outfit suggestions and preparation tips to help you feel fully prepared for your session.

What if my baby doesn’t like the cake?

Every baby responds differently, and that’s completely normal. Some dive straight in while others prefer to explore slowly or simply enjoy playing. I allow plenty of time and gently guide the session to capture natural reactions — often the sweetest moments happen in between.

How long does a cake smash session last?

Sessions are relaxed and unhurried, typically lasting up to one hour (depending on your chosen package) to allow time for milestone portraits, the cake smash and optional clean-up or bath images without overwhelming your little one.

Do parents or siblings join in?

Family and sibling images can absolutely be included at the beginning of your session if desired (in 1hr packages). Please let me know in advance so I can plan the session flow accordingly.

Do you provide the cake?

Cakes can be arranged or you are welcome to bring your own depending on dietary requirements or personal preference. Full preparation details will be provided after booking.

What happens if my baby is unwell?

If your little one is unwell, your session can be rescheduled to the next available date. Your baby’s comfort and wellbeing always come first. Please provide 48 hours notice or a new deposit is require.

When will we receive our images?

Your gallery will be delivered within approximately 2–3 weeks after your session, presented in a private online gallery where you can select your collection and download your images.

How do we book?

Booking is secured with a session agreement and retainer fee ($150). Once confirmed, you’ll receive preparation information so you feel completely ready and relaxed leading into your session.

What payment methods do you accept?

I offer several payment options to make the process simple and flexible for families. Bank transfer and cash payments are the fee-free preferred option. Online card payments via your invoice are available and incur a 2% processing fee, reflecting the charge from my payment provider. Afterpay is also available for eligible purchases, allowing you to spread payments over time in line with Afterpay’s terms (10% surcharge applies). If you’re ever unsure which option is best for you, I’m always happy to chat it through.
